Václav Malý

The bishop Václav Malý was born on 31st September 1950 in Prague. After he graduated from the grammar school, from 1969 to 1976 he studied at Cyrilometodejska Theological Faculty in Litoměřice and in 1976 he was ordained as a priest. Between the years 1976 and 1978 he acted as a chaplain in Vlašim and Plzeň.

Václav MalýIn February 1977 he signed Charter 77 and in 1978 he became a member of the Committee for Protection of the Unjustly Prosecuted. In January 1979 he was taken away the ‚state approval‘ and started to work as a geodesist.

In May 1979 he was arrested and blamed for counteracting the Republic and till December 1979 he was held in custody. Between 1980 — 1986 he worked as stoker in Prague hotels.

From 1981 to 1982 he was a spokesman of Charter 77 and in 1989 Civil Forum.

Between 1990 — 1991 he did work in ecclesiastical service in St. Gabriel church, afterwards he served as a priest in St. Antonín Church in Prague — Holešovice.

On 3rd December 1996 he was appointed titular Marcellian bishop and auxiliary bishop of Prague. He was consecrated on 11th January 1997 in Prague.

He is the chairperson of the Czech council Iustitia et pax ČBK, which supervises keeping the human rights in the Czech Republic and over the world and he acts against their denial.
